Auditioned concert ensembles include Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, and Symphonic Band. Auditions for these ensembles take place in Kemp Recital Hall or the Center for Performing Arts concert hall and the percussion studio in Cook Hall one time a semester at a specific time and date designated by instrument. These auditions are blind. Music is available two weeks before the audition dates. Fall auditions take place the week before classes start. Spring semester auditions take place before winter break. Contact the Band Office to find out how music is distributed and get registered in our mailing database.
Wind and percussion placement for the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra happens during the bands audition process. Students wishing to participate in orchestra should mark their preference on the audition form. Audition forms are available and filled out at the time of audition.
Chamber winds assignments are made according to student preference to participate and ensemble and coaching availability. Students wishing to participate in a chamber music group should mark their preference on the audition form. Audition forms are available and filled out at the time of audition.
Students interested in playing in a jazz ensemble must audition during the week prior to the first day of classes. Jazz ensemble auditions are open to any Illinois State student regardless of major. Various jazz combos of three to ten players are formed primarily from members of Jazz Ensembles I and II. The combos will be constructed through the audition process. Audition details HERE
